The Sun

In this unit, children become aware of the difference between objects in the Earth's atmosphere and those in space. They focus on the characteristics of the Sun as a star, a source of heat and light, and the importance of the Sun to life on Earth. They discover how pictures made of stars are found in the sky and experience stargazing. The Earth's movements of rotation and revolution are introduced through bodily movements and model construction. The tilt of the Earth and the direct light from the Sun are observed and acted out to produce the reasons for the seasons.
